Sofi Tukker Reveal Their Ties To Canada On The Red Carpet

Best friends Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, better known as Sofi Tukker, made their debut on the iHeartRadio MMVAs red carpet in a big way. The band that is responsible for making us dance during commercial breaks arrived at their first iHeartRadio MMVAs and stopped to chat with MUCH Creator Dan Rodo.

The band revealed some surprising ties to Canada, with Hawley-Weld confirming that she previously lived in Victoria, BC. That’s it. We’re claiming Sofi Tukker for Canada!

The duo just wrapped their European tour and are hitting the road again starting Monday morning, but their nonstop schedule hasn’t stopped them from working on future singles. “People at the shows inspire us to write new music,” said Hawley-Weld. Added Halpern, “We get so inspired by all the people dancing at the shows.”

As for how they classify their music, Sofi Tukker said they’re just happy to keep fans moving. “If feels amazing. I think we have trouble identifying with the genre in general, because we make music and usually it makes us dance,” said Hawley-Weld. “We’re really grateful for anyone who listens to our music and cares.”

Sofi Tukker have been overnight successes thanks to their blend of catchy dance pop and trancey EDM beats. Forming in 2016, the group has already scored their first Grammy nomination for “Drinkee” and have developed a cult following thanks to their breakout single “Best Friends,” which is featured in the Apple ad for the iPhone X. The pair are up for two awards tonight, including Best EDM/Dance Artist or Group and Fan Fave Duo or Group.
