Shawn Mendes Wins The iHeartRadio MMVA For Best Pop Artist
After opening the show with an electric performance of “Lost in Japan,” Shawn Mendes has taken home the award for Best Pop Artist or Group at the 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs.
Accepting the award in a purple button-up with green and white shoulder detailing, Mendes addressed the screaming crowd, humbly thanking his fans for their continued support over the years. The award was presented by E! reality television show couple Ashlee Simpson and Evan Ross, who are both making their iHeartRadio MMVAs debut this year ahead of the release of their new TV series, Ashlee+Evan.
Tonight’s win follows Mendes’ four previous iHeartRadio MMVAs, with the singer taking home the Fan Fave Award for “Something Big” back in 2015 and Best Pop Video and Fan Fave Video in 2016 for his “I Know What You Did Last Summer” collaboration with Camila Cabello. The Canadian artist also took home the iHeartRadio MMVA for Best Pop Video last year for his Illuminate hit, “Mercy.”
The Toronto native is nominated in a total of eight categories tonight, including Fave Artist, Fan Fave Single, and Best Collaboration.
The 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs, hosted by Awkwafina, features performances from 98 Degrees, The Beaches, Bebe Rexha, Brett Kissel, bülow, Meghan Trainor, Shawn Mendes, Kris Wu, 5 Seconds of Summer, Alessia Cara, Halsey, and Marshmello featuring Anne-Marie.
