Kris Wu Is Your Fan Fave New Artist
It’s official—Kris Wu (吴亦凡) is your Fave Fave New Artist.
The current chart-topping solo artist and former member of K-pop group EXO is making his iHeartRadio MMVAs debut in a big way. Not only is Kris set to perform this evening, but he also just took home one of the biggest awards of the night thanks to fan voting.
Going up against Dua Lipa, Cardi B, Billie Eilish, Why Don’t We, and Hayley Kiyoko, Kris was crowned the Fan Fave New Artist after weeks of voting by fans online.
“I’ve got a lot to say,” said Kris, who accepted the award on the red carpet. “First of all, I do it for my fans. It’s a honour. This is actually my first award in North America, so I feel blessed and thankful every day. This one for sure goes out to all my fans. Without them I would never be able to be here. Shout out to my fans in Canada!”
As for the fan support in Wu’s sometimes home country of Canada, the singer again gave love to his fans. “Every time I come to Canada, I come to Toronto, people come out to support me. I appreciate all my fans coming out.”
Tonight’s award is the latest achievement in what has been a huge year for Wu. In October, Kris released his Travis Scott collaboration “Deserve” and became the first Chinese artist to reach No. 1 on the U.S. iTunes chart. More recently, in June Kris became the first Chinese artist to hit the Billboard Hot 100 when his song “Like That” went to No. 73.
Don’t miss Kris Wu later tonight when he hits the stage for his highly anticipated first ever performance at the iHeartRadio MMVAs.
The 2018 iHeartRadio MMVAs, hosted by Awkwafina, features performances from Shawn Mendes, Alessia Cara, Meghan Trainor, Kris Wu (吴亦凡), Marshmello featuring Anne-Marie, Brett Kissel, bülow, The Beaches, Bebe Rexha, 98 Degrees, 5 Seconds of Summer and Halsey.
